Trine is packed full of incredible visuals, fun and physics but falls a little short on gameplay hours
Most of the levels are not overly difficult but what makes them great is the number of options a player has to go through them. You are given three characters with unique abilities. A Worms 2 style "Ninja Rope" shooting rogue, an wizard with "Telekenesis like" abilities and a "meat shield" warrior. You can get over/through/past most areas with either the wizard or rogue however some areas are far easier using a certain character.
Visually Trine is amazing, the scenery is incredible and the character movement is very fluid. There is a certain satisfaction gained from sliding of a surface with your rogue, desperately shooting your grappling hook into the ceiling above seconds before plunging to your death and then swinging across a chasm and kicking an enemy off a ledge! There are a lot of fun moments like this and each player will have one that is unique to them as there are so many ways a player can get through the game.
The only thing that detracts from Trine is its length and the fact that it is a little too easy. I would have liked to see some more really challenging physics based puzzles or a few more "how the hell do I get to that ledge?" moments.
I could not imagine playing this without a gamepad and I seriously recommend it to anyone who is looking at getting this. They did a great job with the gamepad controls and it is a nice game to kick back and relax in your computer chair with (a refreshing change from the FPS/RTS hunchback pose we all know and love).
Here's hoping for more great platformers on PC - thanks Frozenbyte!
