Great graphics and a good coop multiplayer aren't enough, to purchase this overpriced piece of software.
GAMEPLAY:
In Trine, you take control of 3 characters.
- a Thief, equipped with a bow and a grappling Hook, to take on obstacles.
- a Knight, equipped with a sword and shield (Who would've guessed) to blast away crates and other stuff which comes in his way, especially monsters(who would've g...)
to make it 3, there is also a Wizard. You will be able, to summon crates/wooden Planks, which will be in need, to get to a higher place. He has also the ability, to move Items in the game.
He can even draw hovering platforms, so the Thief can use his Grappling Hook.
Example:
Draw a crate, let the Thief or Knight hop on and let them surf to higher areas, or summon a Wooden Plank, so you can cross a lava obstacle.
So, you see, every character has useful abilities, to get through the game.
Its played as a 2D Side Scroller, set in an fantasy setting.
The Fun Part of the Game is the local Multiplayer Part.
You can(and should) complete the game with 2 other people.
Everyone can take one character and will do the best, to help others, reaching the end of the game.
SOUND:
The sound in Trine is nice to hear, but will get repetitive very soon. Best solution is, to turn off the in-Game Sound and listen to your favorite tracks in an Media Player.
GRAPHICS:
What can i say. The graphics are beautiful done and deliver a great fantasy fairy-tale setting.
You will see soon, that the developers made a great job, putting so much detail on the levels.
There are dungeons, ruins and green-grass-like sceneries.
Two thumbs up for this one!
RPG ASPECTS:
Trine comes, with RPG elements. In the game, your priority is, to collect green Flasks. If you have 50 of them, your character gets a Level-Up.
You will find the flasks in hidden areas and some are easy to see, behind a rock for example.
All 3 Characters share EXP so if you level up, everyone levels up and you can distribute your skillpoints for all characters.
I won't say much about the skills, because i don't want to spoil you.
NEGATIVE POINTS:
Lets come to the bad parts about Trine:
- very weak storyline with an unbelievable bad ending
- not much monsters in the game. Most are skeletons. Even the most boss-monsters are skeletons. Just in BIG
- 15 Levels, which can be done in under 7-8 Hours. You can come back, to get the flasks, or Items in crates you didn't find but its not very rewarding.
- The Price: 40$, yes you heard right. fourty dollars. 20$ too much.
- a lot of Trial and Error
- NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER (Why?)
To round this up, the score in numbers.
Gameplay: 6.0
Sound: 5.0
Graphics: 8.0
Final Rating: 6.5
I hope you enjoyed my little Review about Trine.
