This game needs some serious UX love!

The very first thing I saw after lunching the game was "Collection". Although it made some sense that I was looking at my owned items I thought it was unusual to see a different interface than your ordinary menu, options and that sort of thing.

I have the default packages so I had three train/route options next to each other placed horizontally. At that point, it never occurred to me that Main Menu was at the bottom of the screen which I'll talk about later. So, after many trials and errors I finally picked the third choice in the collection. It turns out that one is walking me through the controls! So, a tutorial system is hidden somewhere in the interface via an item in collection.

Being very frustrated by this I tried to look for Main Menu and under Tools I realized there is "Manual" button but it was disabled. I have Steam version so I checked Steam Store to see if it's listed in my library items on the right hand. No luck! I headed to the developer's site and finally found the manual http://www.railsimulator.com/assets/manuals/RW_Driver_Manual_Web.pdf

Now I'm finally able to play but to be honest from the way menus look and where things are placed whether it is HUD or menu options, it needs some love whether you call it Marketing or UX. My feeling about this game would be best described as confused. I do understand it's a simulation game and I'd hate the idea that a company like EA would take a game like this and SIMify it but it needs something.

I also found there aren't many scenarios or destinations to play. Some people said they had 100+ hours content but I don't see how. It's either my version is freaking wrong or like many people pointed out you are encouraged to buy DLCs. I don't find that part unappealing though. It's their business model and if they want to make money off of DLCs this is the perfect game. Sell the shell first then compliment it with DLCs but it would still be the same experience with all that interface thing. I found Jason210's review very accurate about interface.

To conclude, I must say that it might be a great simulator but it needs some more game features.
