So I finally became a Shogun (playing on hard this time) on a short campaign, everything was dandy until the year 1575 came and I had something like 16 provinces captured, which isn't enough because I needed 25, so I got a message popping up that said "defeated".

Is there any way for me to safe this game somehow without backtracking 10 years backward and try harder (It's painful).

Can I still beat the game if I continue, or will I not receive recognition for it?

Any help appreciated.

I think those parameters for winning are placed there for a reason. Probably best to just start over with a differnent strategy to control not only the requred number of provinces but also to include the vital ones as well. Called the learning curve.

Hah, that learning curve took me 20 - 30 hours though, but thanks.
