Jackass Meets Tony Hawk Pro Skater. It's A Winning Combination.

User Rating: 8.5 | Tony Hawk's Underground 2 PS2
Tony Hawk Underground was the first Hawk game to feature a story line, and the story continues with the wacky THUG 2.

You play as the character from the first, but basically, you just make someone entirely new. You are kidnapped and taken to a dark room with several other pro skaters (including Eric Sparrow from THUG 1), and a nut in a hockey mask threatens the pros with a chainsaw. But, it turns out to be Bam. He and Tony have collected all the pros, and split them into two teams, Team Hawk, and Team Magera, to compete in the World Destruction Tour. Basically, hit four different continents, and cause all hell while they're there.

The gameplay is traditional Hawk at first, until you see what more is in store. You no longer talk to people to activate story goals, just do them when you like, it gives a bit more freedom, and the goals themselves rock. You'll perform normal style goals, like finding a tape, pull off a combo, but then there's the Jackass element to the game, which will involve bringing down construction sites, throwing food at people, releasing an enraged bull, and other chunks of wholesome goodness. You can pick one other pro on your team to join you each time you begin to play a level, there's a secret skater to use in each level, and a special guest, who will have a special vehicle, one example being the infamous Steve-O riding around on a mechanical bull.

The sound at first seems like normal Hawk style, but with the inclusion of a few Frank Sinatra hits, and other artists of the like, you'll find that the game's music is supposed to give a light, active feel, which suits the game perfectly. The graphics are a tad choppy, but as I say with a lot of games, you'll be having too much fun to notice.

Not only is there a Story Mode, there is Classic Mode for any Old School Hawk Fans. You'll play this in levels from Story Mode, some completely new levels, and some old faves from past games.

In both modes, there is plenty to unlock, there are loads of customizable options, the are some awesome scenes, and the game is not afraid to allow it's goals go into things which are unbelievable (if you play the New Orleans level, you'll know what I mean). It's just an all round, fun game I'd recommend to any Hawk fan, or any newcomers who aren't afraid to see Phil Magera in his underpants.
