This game seems to be cashing in on past sucesses, and I do not recommend it to any Tony Hawk fans with previous games.

User Rating: 4 | Tony Hawk's American Sk8land GBA
Tony Hawks American Sk8land feels way too much like the old Tony Hawks. That,in itself, isn't a bad thing, but there are already so many of these games, and there haven't been any major improvements over past games,so the mere fact that this game exists baffles me.
The first problem with this game is that you have to unlock all your clothing.Unlock it?Why deal with that? And you start off with NOTHING.You have jeans, shorts,a plain white t-shirt,and that's it.This makes creating your skater suck. Now,you have to go around and find people who will tell then give you a goal. Some of these are relevant to your progress, but others are totally stupid. In fact, one goal actually had you find food for a person.Go get it yourself, you lazy turd.
Now,as you complete more and more goals, you get more levels, and some of these have options that can change your character's look.LA has a hair salon, and a lot of levels have places to change clothes, shoes, and in one,you can even design your own deck. But,that doesn't really change anything, because every skater looks exactly the same. The shirts are extremely basic in this game. You don't have any logos or anything. And there is one basic shoe design, and it has about five different colors.Wee.
One nice feature in this game is once you unlock a new level, just skate over to it,and you're there. No loading screen or anything. But,I have noticed, that a few levels from older games have been placed into here.I have no idea why,but they're here.
Something that's very odd about this game,is that there are a lot of pros to pick from, but you can only use them in classic play.In fact, there isn't even a free skate. There's the terrible story mode, and then classic mode. And having only two minutes to skate with your favorite pro is about as much fun as cutting your eye out with a dull pen.
The initial objective of this game is to save an old skatepark,American Sk8land(apropriate)from being demolished. You basicly do this by completing challenges and unlocking new pieces for the park.So how is this actually saving it?In fact,at the end of the game,it magicly happens that the park will stay open. So,why did I do all those lame goals?Speaking of lame goals,I specificly remember one where you need to manual down a giant hill to avoid a fire marshall. Now,how manualing actually gets you AWAY from someone is way beyond me,because it ends up slowing you down, and it's totally unnecessary. And also, when you do the goal, there is no fire marshall in sight. So,am I really being chased?Cause it sure as hell doesn't fee like it.
The music in this game feels pretty cheesy.Even more so than the previous games. It can be very odd,and doesn't really get you in the mood for skating. So,why not just put REAL songs on here? You don't even need the whole thing?I mean,I would be totally for putting a part of a Ramones song in here,if it means that I don't have to listen to the crap that is actually in here.
I see no purpose in buying this game if you have Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2,3,4,Underground,or Underground 2.Even if you don't have any of those games, just get those, because they're way better than the mess of a game that is called Tony Hawks American Skateland.
