CoD MW2 cast in a 3rd person environment w/mouse smoothing...

User Rating: 6.5 | Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction PC
This is a "set in the Splinter Cell" universe kind of game. Make no mistake about it, this is NOT Splinter Cell. The names might be the same and the history might be the same, but the game play has gone rogue to become a 3rd person cover based shooter with almost zero resemblance to what made its predecessors (mostly) a classic.

The graphics are great. The voice acting is great. The mission objectives printed in the environment are great. If that's all it took to be a good game then this would certainly make Conviction a 10. But since it isn't...

The AI is horrendous. The repetitive nonsense spewed out the the mouths of the enemy in endless fashion is horrendous. The story is disjointed and forgettable. The weapons are nearly indistinguishable. The upgrades are largely worthless. The grenades are difficult to control and do frustratingly little damage. Mouse smoothing makes fire fights a pain. The walk/run mechanic, when trying to escape quickly from a crouch, is horrendous. The check point save system is designed to artificially lengthen the game. The DRM continues to be draconian and unnecessary.

It is impossible to play this game for any length of time in a Splinter Cell like stealthy fashion. Every encounter eventually turns into a Gears of War firefight. There are countless long stretches of nothing but firefights. Take CoD MW2 and make it 3rd person and you have Splinter Cell Conviction. Sam very mad. Very sad.
