the begining and probably the end of squad based shooters.

Ah good old ghost recon, its graffics even in its day were never great, but the content was fab.

It was one of the first non linear vaguely realistic military squad tactics games of its time. Where the point of the game was take two squads of elite soldiers and drop into a zone and eliminate then exfiltrate the area.

You got to pick your teams, arm them, then go. Nobody had health bars or screens that went red until you "rested" it was kill or be killed. Or get wounded and be nearly usless. I liked that you were never slaved to one guy but could jump from team mate to team mate. And maybe it was just me, but those were the most useable grenades and grenade launchers ever.

I was even suprised at the time, when you kills actually stayed on the field after being killed. And the satellight overview to direct teams was awesome.

The game had its glitches, and odd graffics, and the soldiers had zero personality, which was as good as it was bad considering the way all tactical shooters today seem to be.

And in closing i have to say i wish ubi soft had stayed with the orrigional formula, just making it look slicker and run smoother. If i want my guys to have personality i'll watch a movie, or play the plethora of arcade styled "military" shooters out there. Man... ghosts i miss you guys, you're probobly still out there....But you're just ghosts.....
