This game was better and worse than Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero at the same time. It's still a fun and addicting game.

We all know that Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero was released on the PS2 in 2001. Two years later, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 was designed and released on the PS2. Unlike Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, this game has a few more tracks, named Osaka and Nagoya. This time the cars are finally licensed, such as a Toyota and Mitsubishi etc. Although Zero had a total of 400 rivals, this game has about 600 rivals. The physics engine was immensely upgraded to weather and special effects etc.

As far as the presentation level is concerned, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 is not much different from Zero. There may be 200 more rivals to challenge, and more tracks to race on, but the game play is practically the same. At first, you drive on the highways of Tokyo, like Zero, and there are three tough bosses to defeat. You may have a hard time defeating Defected Angel because that person drives really fast, and he/she may have a tendency to cheat (catch up fast if he/she is way behind you with turbo boosts). After that, you get to drive on Nagoya. This time the road is straighter. The physics engine, special effects, graphical editors, weather conditions, courses, textures, lighting, menus, options, car tuning, and rival characters were apparently upgraded.

The music is obviously way different from Zero. In Zero, the music was more of a light techno which was awesome to listen to. This time the battles sound more like a Batman themed music. Most of the music is basically guitar riff, but it's slightly less impressing and strange to listen to than Zero.

In my opinion, the graphics were slightly downgraded. In Zero, there was a lot more lighting, which was easier to see on the roads. In this game, the lighting is a tad duller, and some of the walls were duller looking as well. This game has rain from time to time, but it's a little bit more difficult to see on the roads.

As far as the game play is concerned, they improved on that area. In Zero, the cars were more difficult to turn on corners because they moved really fast. You had to really slow down on turning which been not much of a problem. In this game, making turns was much easier because the cars were able to slow down quicker.

Overall, this game was better and worse than Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero at the same time. This is still a fun and addicting game. I would definitely recommend this game to any racing fans.

Presentation - 9 There are 600 rivals, two more challenging tracks, the cars, and the menus were upgraded. Too bad there were no more extra modes than Zero.

Graphics - 8 The graphics were the same from its predecessor, but the lighting and walls were a bit more dull looking.

Sound - 7 The music is mostly guitar riff, and the battles sound a lot like the Batman theme.

Game play - 8 The cars are easier to turn on corners than Zero. Good Job Genki!

Lasting approval - 7 Once you beat all 600 rivals, you can re-race them, and play other modes. Too bad there's no online mode.

Overall: 7.8 I have to round it up a bit.
