Get past the first few levels and you have a rather fun game here

User Rating: 7 | TimeShift X360
Timeshift is a game in which you play the role of a scientist who possesses a suit that gives him the ability to manipulate time.

Throughout the course of the game you must use this ability to solve puzzle, escape death, kill enemies, and perform other amazing feats.

Story:
Not terribly well executed but an interesting premise nonetheless. Another scientist [Dr. Krone] steals something known as the alpha suit and plants a bomb in the science facility where you work; he then uses the suit's time jumping ability to escape the reality you are now in. Your character hastily dons the prototype beta suit, and just as the bomb detonates, you involuntarily follow Krone to a dystopian 1930s, where Krone has proclaimed himself ruler. The story of the game sees you working to defeat krone by aiding the resistance and along the way small snippets of the events leading up to the game's start are revealed. The plot main plot of the game is relatively simple to follow, but sometimes odd jumps occur in-between the end of one level and the start of the next with no explanation of how you got there or why, this can be quite jarring at times but it's easy to shrug off. I won't spoil the ending but for all the build up the final boss fight felt a bit weak, I personally was hoping for another stage to it.
Overall: Average story, could have easily been better paced.

Gameplay:
I have to admit, I got this game when it came out and didn't play more than an hour of it because I found the first few stages/levels to be incredibly generic and uninteresting. However when you get past these initial parts the gameplay really picks up. You get far more interesting weapons, enemies, puzzles and environments, such as interesting duels with enemies with similar time manipulation abilities. Enemies for the most part aren't really varied, as the game progresses the simply get slightly more health and slightly better weapons, it's quite hard to notice as nearly every foot soldier in the game can be killed with one exploding crossbow bolt. The time manipulation mechanic is very well implemented, holding the right button brings up a mini menu with a choice of 3 abilities; slow, reverse and stop. However if you just tap this button, it'll automatically choose which ability deems optimal for the situation, this feature is quite the lifesaver in situations where as you approach a door 5 soldiers armed with energy cannons burst through and open fire. I was constantly disappointed however by the lack of uses for the time reverse ability, it rarely was the automatic choice and was only ever used for puzzles or detaching sticky grenades from yourself. The gunplay feels smooth and easy to use and weapons are satisfying to fire and manage.
The game does have multiplayer but it's likely to be empty by now and I don't have online so I can't give my opinion on it.
Overall, pretty solid, fun, gameplay.

Graphics:
The graphics in the game are.. odd, the games art style sit comfortably in-between cell shaded and regular. The graphical quality is surprisingly consistent given the size of some of the maps, however foliage and other organic life is give grimy to look at, aliasing being quite a problem in these areas.
Overall, pleasant graphics.

Conclusion:
Definitely worth at least a rent, you'll start missing having time powers when you go back to other FPSs.
I give it 7/10
