Take that buggy!

User Rating: 7 | TimeShift (2007) PC
Since I am a player for over 20 years now, considering I started playing console games when i was three years old (although that was fail playing) I think that my opinion somewhat matters.
Overall TimeShift is one of the few most underrated games.
The game has your standard issue mute protagonist. We can't say it's a bad thing. Look at Half Life, Freeman never spoke a single vowel yet the game is good.
What I liked about the game is time mechanics, a small revolution in time shifting within games.
It gives so much freedom, and occasionally you run into enemies that require tactics.

Why is this game good?
Well for every true sci-fi fan out there, playing this game feels like reading a short sci-fi novel. And that is whee it shines the most. Unlike Singularity that went on a standard "tangled timelines" plot,
TimeShift just starts in the middle of happening. The side info and all the filler stuff are ripped out to create a more realistic "what the hell is going on" situation.

We find out that a group of scientist were developing a prototype suit that can bend time in several diferent ways; Slow, rewind, stop. Much like mp3 player. But the main selling point is that everything else except the suit wearer gets manipulated, and that is the refreshment this game adds to the old time shifting powers.
Stopping time to snatch weapons from your enemies has never been so fun.
People say graphics are average, but for 2007 game I consider them awesome, especially water spilling when in slow-mo.
The second thing I liked is that there is no overpowered move.
Switching between modes will give the best end result; Unlike
time stopping sphere in Singularity that made all other Glove modes obsolete.
What I did in Time Shift. I took a buggy, drove it on the road, and then i came across some thugs that raised alarm. I was discovered and I had a bunch of guards on me. So I rewinded to the point I didn't get in the buggy and I watched it drive itself into the bunch of thugs on the road. The buggy was in motion when i rewinded but rewind pulled me out of the car since I am unaffected by changes. Therefore the buggy was driven into thugs, and since no one was driving, there was no alarm. Not one game managed to pull this off.
The plot is simple, yet entertaining. A group of scientists made proto suits to control time and fix mistakes. But the Lab gets blow up by a guy that worked there, and in the last second you are sent in the time with that guy. What you find there is an alternate history. World War II never happened 'cus the bad guy brought ideas and new technology into 1939. By doing that he became a tech-overlord that runs around in a huge robot arachnid crushing anyone that opposes his regime. Protagonist just wants to save his girl.
Although the short game, it has a easy to understand story, addictive gameplay where you can experiment, nice set of guns to use, smart enemies (with similar time shifting abilities) and great twist in the plots end.
Although not as massive as Bioshock or Singularity (Singularity failed hardly on the games end) the world that Time Shift has to offer is equally intriguing to see as its counter parts.
Again, highly recommended for true sci-fi fans!
