No matter what Gamespot says about this game it is still a solid golf simulation even if it recycled from years before
As most people would assume Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a golf simulation staring many of the worlds best golfers. Of course you can play as these real life golfers but the game is designed for the player to create a brand new golfer and develop this golfer's skills by playing through 3 years on the PGA tour. During the 3 years on the PGA tour you will play many different events and mini-games which will earn you money and skill points. You can use these skill points to upgrade the created golfers skills such as putting, driving accuracy, chip shots, etc. You can then use the money to buy items such as clothing, golf clubs, golf balls, etc. You can then equip these items onto your golfer to give them an extra skill boast during gameplay. Certain items give the golfer a high skill boast then other items.
The gameplay of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is solid, but is commonly bashed due to the fact that it has not changed that much for year to year. As most people see this as a negative i see it as a positive. The gameplay is perfectly designed for the PSP and there are not too many ways to improve upon it. Of course this year they added the "concentration/confidence meter" which is suppose to affect your skills during a round of golf. This meter goes up and down depending on how you are playing at any given moment. For example if you take a shot and get an hole-in-one your confidence will go up but if you take a shot and it goes into the sand your confidence will go down. Although this sounds like a great idea it does not play very well as it is very hard to get your confidence to stay all the way up. Also if you are having a hard time these random mini-games will pop up to give you more confidence. Again this seems like a good idea but it slowly becomes annoying and you will most likely turn it off. The gameplay is very fun and addictive and can be played by all ages.
Overall Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a solid and fun game even if most of the gameplay is recycled.
