What happened? EA was doing so well with the Tiger Woods series for the PS2. (I played them all) Then this happens. Don’t get me wrong the game is well done. The physics are good, the game play is realistic, and it’s fun to play, most of the time, but I just really don’t want to listen to it. The worst is the commentary by your own character. The shouts of “break, break” on a straight putt or after it has gone into the hole. The cry of “come on” (in dismay) after a perfect shot. Or “sit down” when you are 30 yards short of the green. Minor you say. OK, how about the constant bray of “be the stick”, “be the number”, or “get in your home” after every other shot. All I want to “be” is the control that turns off the sound. Less annoying is hearing “now tied for the lead” on the last putt on a round when you are 10 strokes ahead. All right, so maybe I am being a little bit critical of a game that otherwise is fairly well put together. But it’s the little things that make a game enjoyable. Having to play extra holes at the end of a skins game when you are 4 or 5 skins and big buck ahead. “The players are tied”. What! I though I won. Must be a new kind of scoring.
EA has put together a good game, but unfortunately didn’t take the time to make sure all the pieces fit together. Come on guys, I would rather wait a few extra months for the release and get a game that looks and SOUNDS like it came from a group of professionals and not a week-end assignment for Game Development 101.
