While Tony Hawk's Pro Skater had you grinding on telephone lines, a more toned down, realistic game was released. That game was Thrasher: Skate & Destroy. This game, while not great in the graphics department, offers a more original style of gameplay. When you skate in real life, you have to set up your tricks before you do them, as opposed to ollie then flip, like in Tony Hawk. Thrasher recreates this feeling excellently, with the player setting up their tricks by pressing a certain button (ie. T is flips, O is grabs and spins, [] is ollies L1 nollie modifier etc.) it takes practice and coordination, but after a little time getting used to the controls, you can bust out combos worthy of any tony hawk game. one other aspect that is better than the Tony Hawk series is the level design. The game uses levels based off of real spots and makes for more realistic gameplay. a good game, even today, you can pick one up for cheap from most game stores. well worth your time, and once you learn the ropes, you will appreciate it for what it is.
