First off, Thirty Flights of Loving is a masterpiece. It should be a classic in the years to come. It tells the story of a, let's just say, "mischievous" group of people. There is zero spoken dialogue. Instead, the story is told in a similar way to silent films.
The story is told through the environment, the way people move around. The level design is excellent, being able to tell a story, too. Explanations to your relations with people are kept brief, simple and quick. The player feels the emotions of the character, the sense of urgency. You care about the characters. And this is all achieved without dialogue.
