Fun if you like the show and/or FMV games.

User Rating: 6.5 | The X-Files PS
The first thing X-Files fans should know is that this game has a totally original story. It takes place in the show's mytharc, and unlike many game-specific stories, this one was written by the series creator, and features acting by the show's cast, including David Duchovny.

Because of the huge number of short video clips, the game is spread out over 4 discs(!), which is insane for a console game. While this makes it an interesting physical addition to my collection, it is a little cumbersome having to swap discs. At least it's not as bad as the PC version, which had 7 CD's.

Gameplay-wise, it's a fairly standard point-and-click game, so if you like those, you'll like the game. If you don't, but like the show, it's worth playing for the story and clips. Minor details offer several choices, and as you play, the central character will become increasingly trusting, increasingly paranoid, or remain indifferent based on your choices. And any X-Files fan knows just how fascinating paranoia can be as a storytelling device.

FOR PS2 USERS: The game is compatible with the PlayStation 2, but there are a few audio glitches, and the cursor is often rendered improperly. While not game-breaking, these glitches can be almost totally avoided by playing on an original PS.
