The greatest RPG on a handheld. Ever. If you own a DS, you need to own this game.

This is a great game. It boasts a great plot, awesome combat system, likeable characters, kick-ass music and a great graphical style, all bound together in an amazing game that is an absolute must-play for anyone who owns and Nintendo DS, or has even a passing interest in the RPG genre altogether. Quite simply, this is probably the best game on the system.
The story puts you in control of Neku Sakuraba, an emo teenaager who wakes up in the middle of Shibuya with no memory of anything. Then he realises he can read minds. Then he realises that strange creatures are floating around the city, killing off some of the citizens, while others remain oblivious to what is going on around them. As Neku tries to survive and make sense of what is going on, he meets a variety of different characters, and this makes for an interesting and immersive plot.
The combat system in this game utilises everthing the DS is capable of - it makes full use of the dual-screen design of the console, the touch-screen capabilites and even the microphone built into the system. The combat in this game may seem complicated at first, but after a few hours practising, it becomes easier to handle, and a hell of a lot of fun. It can become hectic trying to control two characters simultaneously, which only adds to the excitement and tension that the game brings. If you want more details on the combat system, read this site's review. In my opinion, this is one the most unique combat systems in any game, and this alone can stand as a reason to at least experience the game.
The music in this game is simply amazing. There is a wide variety of different tracks in this game, ranging from soft piano to throbbing heavy metal. There are a few annoying tunes here-and-there, especially the ones which are just a short tune endlessly looped. However, these duds aren't too common, and don't detract much from this game.
The graphic and art style in this game is also amazing. The bizarre character designs are reminiscent of Japanese anime, and fit well into the game. From the over-exaggerated facial expressions to the crazy hairstyles, you can tell this game doesn't try to make this game too serious. There are also some odd enemy designs, including frogs with tattoos for legs and some of the scariest kangaroos you will ever see. It all aids the fun, and helps build a more laid-back atmosphere. The plot may be full of heart-moving moments, but the crazy graphical design ensures that this game isn't taken too seriously. There are also some nice effects for the combat, ensuring that everything in game looks flashy and fun.
Overall, this is one of the greatest games available on any system. I would have given this game a perfect score, but I don't believe in perfection. If you feel like it, pretend the score says 10. It's really what this games deserves.
