Do you have what it takes to be a witcher?

User Rating: 10 | The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt XONE
No like honestly, do you? Do you have what it takes to learn the importance of alchemy in any given situation, the weakness of your enemy in every battle, the strength of your strike in every move, and the power to control and own all 5 signs of the witcher. In reality, I am going to go with a blunt no, for like all of us, but in control of one of the most baddass characters the gaming world has ever seen, I am going to go with a strong yes. Geralt of Rivia is nothing short of being just that, a badass that is. He is a ladies crushing, smooth talking, monster slaying, horse riding, alchemy brewing, hero, who will steal your heart in ways you never imagined possible. Just like the entirety of the Witcher game itself did, for so many reasons steal my thoughts, heart, and soul for over 200 hours. Hold on tight ladies and gentlemen, because this is a ride. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, starts in a peaceful location, Kaer Morhen, a sort of home to folks of Geralt's type. You are training your daughter in the arts of being a witcher when all the sudden everything turns to chaos. As the chaos ensues you are ripped awake from fear, realizing that it is all but a dream, far from the truth or reality. At this point in the game you are traveling with your companion and mentor, Vesemir, tracking one of the many loves part of Geralt's life. And from that point I won't go further to ruin one of the best stories, since Bilbo Baggins himself left the shire, so many years ago. Now let's get down to what makes the Witcher 3 so amazing, and we shall start with the combat. Relentless, brutally difficult, and truthfully a blast inside and out, the mechanics behind our hero are so smooth, that sometimes you feel like you are geniunely Geralt himself. Geralt has control over 2 upgradeable swords, a steel one and a silver one. The steel one, no matter it's strength in your build, is for humans and creatures, while the silver one is strictly for slaying monsters. Along with these two swords, Geralt also has control over bombs and a crossbow that help him in ranged combat situations. Lastly, you are given the power over the five signs of the witcher. And all of this is combined with your knowledge of alchemy and beastery, to make every combat situation unique in how it should be handled. It is truly amazing how the beasts and beings of the world all have weaknesses and strengths that bring them to life, and make it impossible to slay your opponent without truthfully knowing their abilities. The combat is lovely, there are truly no other words for it. Now that we have tackled the combat and story within the Witcher, let's move on the sound, graphics, and immersion of the game itself, because all 3 are absolute home runs in the game. So I am actually excited to talk about them. The sound, as far as the environment and music goes, is beautifully done. Each slash of your sword rips through the air in a beautiful clash of noises. While out in the open world, the woods and swamps feel like they are real, breathing and whistling in the wind as you hear the creatures of the world coming out of hiding. And lastly, when speaking of sound, the music is perfect for the Witcher 3's setting, the strong and soothing tunes of the olden days make all the pieces come together and truly give you that feel of being inside the game itself. The graphics for the game as absolutely stunning, like holy crap. Every blade of grass is crisp, every river of water is sharp, and every strike and swing of your sword is so beautiful, it almost makes me want to take up fencing. Or you know, maybe something a little more violent than that, but we will keep that between us. These bordline flawless graphics, combined with beautiful sounds, top notch game play, and one hell of a story bring Witcher 3 into the upper stratosphere in terms of gaming experience. The immersion I felt from the very second I entered it's beautiful world was incredible. I truly wanted to know all about the Witcher, from Geralt's story himself to the lore that incorporates the world he lives in. It was and still is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever played, and if you haven't had the chance yet you are missing out on something special. I honestly cannot think of a single flaw, perhaps besides the fact that it is too addicting for words, and that really isn't a flaw, ahaha. Lastly before we wrap this up, I forgot to mention the characters you encounter during your travel. From the smallest of merchants, to the kings of the lands you visit, the characters and voice acting are beautifully done. There isn't a single flaw, in any of them, and they also help add to the total dimension of this game being top notch. Now that I think about it I did actually find one flaw, but some would argue that it's their game design as oppose to a flaw. When you kill enemies in the Witcher 3 you gain no experience points, the only time your character advances in experience is through the completion of quests. That being said it isn't a major problem since the game is loaded with all types of quests, but in my personal opinion I think all RPGS should award players for taking down the best of the best beasts. Not a major flaw, just one thing I noted. Pros: -Stunningly beautiful open world. -Geralt is an absolutely amazing character to control. -Combat is top notch. -Supporting cast of characters is extremely well done. -Sounds are flawless. Cons: -Highly addictive (LOL). -Killing enemies garners no experience points. Final Verdict: If you love RPGS like myself, then you should buy the Witcher 3 and see if you truly have what it takes to be a master of both land and combat.
