While this game is pretty good, it is too much like Battle for Bikini Bottom and lacks the spirit of the show.
Some of the level design is ingenious. Also, the environments are very creative and interesting. One level is a dump where giant toasters and dirty toilets are littered in toxic waste. Another is Plankton empire, with temples and Mayan-inspired buildings.
Graphics are improved greatly from the first version. There is much more detail and everything looks cleaner.
The music is very catchy, and the voice samples from SpongeBob and Patrick are very characteristic.
This game is much harder that Battle for Bikini Bottom. Racing challenges and devious traps will ensure many, many deaths.
This game has more variety than BFBB. Along with platforming action, there is also driving and sliding.
Very, very cool unlockable bonuses, like videos and outfits.
It just doesn't have that same charm that the first game had; it doesn't have the SpongeBob spirit. It doesn't even seem like a SpongeBob game.
Many of the environments are either too dark (detail is sometimes hard to see), or too generic.
This game can be unforgivingly tough at times, especially some of the Ring challenges and later levels.
This game is MUCH too like Battle for Bikini Bottom. All the moves and attacks are EXACTLY THE SAME. All of the enemies are EXACTLY THE SAME.
This game is way too short. There are only a few platforming levels, and, while Battle for Bikini Bottom had 100 Spatulas (the equivalent of Stars in Mario games), this game only has 68 Tokens (Stars). Many of these are also simply slightly different challenges on the same course. On the racing courses, there is a "finish alive" challenge, a "time attack" challenge, a "drive through all the rings" challenge, and a "macho time attack" challenge. That's four Tokens right there. Many courses are too repetative with these types of challenges.
Levels are way too small. Remember the HUGE environments in BFBB like Jellyfish Fields and the Flying Dutchman's army of ships? Well, this game's levels are short and linear, with few side quests or hidden secrets.
So, the bottom line is, this is a fun, challenging game, but it is too much like its predecessor and not as good, which can seriously kill your fun.
