This is yet again another horrible Simpson’s licensed game. The Gameplay is mediocre, the jumping engine is hard to use in the rare occasions you need to jump up somewhere. If the platform is small it is very difficult. The driving engine is not very good either. You have no feel for the cars and they handle very poorly to what the game asks you to do with them. In a game like this that is basically all driving missions you need to have a great driving engine with great Gameplay to back it up. They seemed to assume that a less then decent one would do, almost like it is a minor part of an extensive multi genre game such as a GTA type. But this game doesn’t feature many if any multi genre gaming so your left with a crumby driving game with out a very good base engine to start with. You also have an awful looking attack for each character that is more or less useless. Overall the Gameplay is not so good and makes doing the missions very hard. Also it’s worth pointing out that the game has a horrendous AI, and in some missions the computer will take itself out completing a mission for you or a giving you a lot of help in beating it. The graphics in this game aren’t so bad. The 3D versions of the characters came out very well. The environments look all right, but don’t do as well in making you feel like you’re in the Simpsons world. The cars when they are damaged begin to smoke. This effect causes the frame rate to dive down and gives your car the feeling of a pause in the game then jumps forward. This keeps happening until your car is repaired of destroyed. These glitches really hurt the games overall graphical quality. Also there is no lip sinking in the game. The characters mouths barely move and aren’t even close to looking like the character is speaking. They tried to hide this with camera angles, but it looks terrible. They’d have been better off with no mouth movements at all. Also some of the environments will occasionally have lines in them and be off kilter with the rest of a wall and will act like it’s full of glitches and look atrocious. The sound of the game is probably it’s best feature. The voice actors from the show did all the voice work, the music is good and fits the shows theme mostly borrowing from said show, and the in game action sounds decent enough. One problem is that even with the real voice actors the game isn’t funny at all and the characters still don’t seem to be completely in sink with the counterparts. There are some lousy in game one liners that are just awful though. The game consists of short little fetch missions, races, collecting items, getting to certain places, Following cars, finding people, and destroying other cars by ramming into them. All of these are timed by the way and usually for no explainable reason. Later in the game to make longer missions they tack two or three regular missions into one to make the game more difficult. That or they’ll give you a very short amount of time to do it in. The game is full of extra missions and things to do that aren’t related to the main story. Much like a GTA style they try to create a world to do different thing that are supposed to be fun or even moderately entertaining, but fail miserably. The main story stuff is just terrible, unoriginal, and just plain unplayable. There is no desire to play any level extras because the level main story stuff can barely be played through. The games story is good enough, but isn’t anything to write home about. Also in the main missions many of which have you doing things that are completely unrelated to the main plot. Overall this game is a horrible GTA rip off and consists of horrible, unappealing, dull, missions that give you a sense of anger, frustration, and a feeling of time being wasted. The only redeeming parts to the game are the references to past episodes of the show that hardcore fans will get and in the earlier stages they work a little into the game, but that is removed from the game very quickly. This is not a game I would recommend to anyone even faithful Simpsons fans because there isn’t any worth while content and isn’t enjoyable in any way. I personally had a better experience with the Futurama game and I didn’t like that game either, but at least it was original and had some redeeming Futurama content.
