Lost Vikings SNES isn't a bad game, but even the multi-player option is a little bit dry in my opinion.

User Rating: 7.5 | The Lost Vikings SNES
Storyline: 3 Viking warriors go out hunting one day, but they never return to their wives in the village. Turns out they got sucked into space...

Gameplay: Lost Vikings is a 2-d action/platform/puzzle game with a multi-player co-op function. You start out with all 3 Vikings who have different abilites - Eric the Swift runs fast and can jump; Olaf the Stout can block and float with his shield; Baleog the Fierce can attack enemies using his bow and arrows and sword. Since each character's special abilities are limited, it's obvious that all 3 Vikings are crucial parts of every mission. If one player dies, you have to start all over because you need all 3 to make it. You receive a password which is great - you can pick up right where you left off, with no possibility of losing all your data.

Graphics: The graphics are good. The character sprites are large and somewhat cartoony. They look a lot like characters from 'Haggar the Horrible' in the newspaper comic strip. However, the levels are just okay to look at.

Audio: I'm not wild about the audio in this game. This includes mostly the music which is poor, and also the sound effects leave a bit to be desired. When I think Viking lore, I don't necessarily think upbeat techno. The sound quality is still OKAY, but only because the Super Nintendo includes an advanced audio card.

Controls: The controls in the game are fine but not perfect. A little bit loose in my opinion, but it doesn't detract from the gaming experience.

Replay: Lost Vikings does have decent replay value. 2 player co-op games are more re-playable than 1 player games IMO. If you've done all there is to do with 1 player, you'll have a fun time delving back into it with a partner by your side.

Pros: Multi-player function with co-op. Unique puzzles. Funny moments.

Cons: Slow paced at times. Poor music. Mediocre environments.

Overall: This game is definitely a solid piece for your collection, but I have my reservations also. To me, the music and the environments were just off. I would have loved to be aboard a Viking ship, sailing from country to country, with some nice theatrical scores. Instead you're in space with techno music. However the puzzles are very fun, and it's cool that you need all 3 guys to work as a team to pass each area. Lost Vikes is a lot of fun, but could have been so much better!
