Worth playing if you are a LotR fan. All others might want to pass as this game can become extremely tedious.

This is your basic of the basic RPG with the LotR gloss put on it. This in a lot of ways feels old school at the same time feeling archaic. If you have played an RPG then you will no doubt learn how to play this game rather quickly. The combat is turn based and there are random battles as well as enemies you will see on screen.

The story evolves around Berethor a warrior from Gondor out looking for Boromir. He was sent to look for him when there was no word after Boromir went to the meeting in Rivendale. The story really feels like a bunch of b list characters that are on the outside looking in on the real heroes which are from the movies. You basically follow the same path as the fellowship just right behind them. The game is pretty linear and is broke down into chapters. The leveling up system is the most addictive part of the game and you will level up frequently. You will allocate points to different sword, spear, axe, etc depending on the weapon your character wields. There is also magical spells. The game is of adequate length for an RPG as it will take you 30 hours or so to complete. This is plenty long enough because the combat can become extremely repetitive.

The graphics and sound are pretty good. There are plenty of weapons to discover but the addition of shops would have been nice. That is one of the problems with this game is you don't interact enough and more than likely will not become that involved with the characters. The game does have its moments with the boss fights and just the overall LotR feel. Also after each chapter evil mode becomes unlocked to where you get to control Sauron's minions which is a nice little addition. But besides that there is much in the way of unlockables. A decent game and worth playing for fans of RPG's and the movies
