It's not just the two player mode that makes this game fun. There are 9 different characters to unlock, including the four Hobbits, Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, and Farameir, each with special moves and abilities. For example, as one of the Hobbits, your projectile weapons are daggers, whereas the tall people use bow and arrows.

The story itself follows the events after the Two Towers movie, starting at the victory of Helm's Deep, where you play as Gandalf. Some parts were changed, like the Paths of the Dead levels where you can kill the ghosts that attack you, which didn't happen in the movie, but it works all the same.

The animations are much better than the Two Towers game. Each character runs and attacks like they would in the movies, setting apart their distinct personalities.

Each level contains interactive spots where you can pick up spears and throw them at enemies, activate switches, or cause something to crash to the ground. Each interactive spot is located by a purple ring. This gives the characters an opportunity to use their environment.

Also, the levels themselves are well detailed and alive, whether it be a building crumbling to the ground in the distance or an explosion that hurls a wooden scaffolding into a river, causing a huge tidal wave to splash upon the banks. They will make you want to revisit them again and again.

You can also upgrade the character's moves and abilities. Example, you can upgrade the Hobbits' daggers so that they will inflict a poison effect on enemies, or Legolas's bow so that it will shoot two arrows at a time instead of one. So really, this is an LOTR game that you will not want to pass by, even if you just rent it for a week with a friend.
