Starfy's not as fun as Kirby, but he's still good.

I bet lots of people would think Starfy (the star shaped creature whose series has been in only Japan for 7 years) is a lot like Kirby. His games have vibrant graphics, a cute hero, and maybe other things that may make him resemble Kirby. But if you play The Legendary Starfy, you'll notice that this isn't nearly the same thing as Kirby, in terms of gameplay and, sadly, fun.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a good game, but it's not anything too great. Starfy is a slower paced platformer than most other platfoming games. Starfy can swim (swimming is what you'll do for most half of the time, and that's not much fun), run, jump, and more, like most the great game heroes. You will be able to transform into different animal forms, such as a dragon, ghost, seal, and chicken. You will also find many treasures scattered around the worlds. But nothing in here particularly great. The level design are kind of boring, the slower pacing isn't something that I exactly like, and it's too easy (strangely, most of the bosses have killed me at least once, so apparently I suck at gaming). But overall, you should enjoy all this stuff if you like platformers.

Speaking of stuff, Starfy has a crap load of stuff you can find. There's minigames, notes from various characters, outfits, and more. There's also a lot of stuff to do, like playing certain levels with co-op, a boss showdown (as I said, this is too easy, and not nearly as hard as the Kirby Super Star Ultra boss showdowns), and the aforementioned minigames. This should help you play more of this, but I think that this stuff is gimmicky, and just an excuse to lengthen the game.

Starfy has an okay presentation. The graphics are all right, but they're not as good as the Kirby DS games are. The music has some good tracks, and some mediocre ones. There are DS games that have much better graphics and music though.

Like I said, the presentation is fine, but not great. There are some lame things about this game, but none of them are truly awful. The only thing that is is the putrid story. It's fine at first, but after a while, it starts to go downhill, as there are too many cliches, terrible character designs, bad dialouge, and scenes that try too hard to be funny. And there are cutscenes that show themselves multiple times, but are hardly any different than it was the first time. Why didn't Nintendo make game more funny though? Play one of Mario's RPG's and you'll see funnier things than this game.

At the end of the day, I'd rather play Kirby. But if you want a decent platforming romp, then might want to check The Legendary Starfy out. Younger kids might get more out of this game, though.
