Despite Kirby-like graphics and being too easy, The Legendary Starfy stands out on its own with unique and fun gameplay.

The Legendary Starfy is the first game in the series to reach North American audiences, and it delivers. Its unique gameplay mechanics, combined with the cuteness of the more well known Kirby series, TOSE has brought over one of the best platformers of all-time, though with some minor problems.

Graphics: At a first glance, the graphics look like a Kirby game, but with a star as the main character. First of all, while they do have similarities, this style of cute graphics is much more of a "Ocean Kirby" if compared to Kirby, but they are there own style of graphics and they look quite good for a 2D game on the DS. There's not much to complain about, except for the most part they look too similar to distinguish itself aside from the cute Kirby style

Sound: The music, is much like the adventure itself: aquatic themed. Just like the graphics, they sound alot like what would be in a Kirby game. Though it does have some really good music, like the boss battles, they suffer from the same thing as the graphics: being too Kirby-like. But it's still quite good

Gameplay: The style of gameplay is very unique among many platformers these days. You control the platform hero, Starfy in a typical platforming adventure. This is where the game differs majorly from Kirby's games, as the abilities that Starfy (abd to a lesser extent, Starly, Starfy's sister, not to be confused with Starly from the Pokémon series) are completely unrelated. Starfy has a ton of abilities, his first being his spin which is you're basic attack. Later on, you get more abilities and upgrades to your previous abilities. Also, during the adventure, you get special forms of Starfy like a fire breathing dragon called Monstar. Each of these abilities make the game more fun, and there is also multiple treasures in each level to collect, like extra health points and upgrades to the aforementioned Monstar abilities. TOSE truly made one of the most unique and best platformers on the DS/i and of all-times.

Difficulty: The big problem with the game is the difficulty. Just like...Kirby (again) the game is a cakewalk and can be beaten in roughly a day or two. Though the game is quite lengthy and has two new worlds after beaten, the easiness makes the game seem too short. It's too easy to be "safe"
3.5/10

Overall: While the cute kid-like graphics and lack of a real difficulty might turn off most gamers, The fun gameplay and, though often compared to Kirby, it establishes itself for what it is: an excellent platformer
