A classic that still lives in the modern age...

User Rating: 9.5 | The Legend of Zelda NES
Considering that at the time of this writing, The Legend of Zelda is nearly 17 years old, the game still holds up very well. Note that the score submitted reflects both the hardware that it is on (NES) and the time it was released with some weight thrown in on how it has aged. To put it simply, you will be hard pressed to find a game that has stood up as well as Zelda. The gameplay is still top notch even by today's standards, which is impressive given when it was released. The sound and graphics also hold up well and look and sound impressive. The music is still distinctive and any 80's Nintendo junkie can hum it in his or her sleep. There are really only 4 major tracks to the game, but they do not sound repetitative even after several hours of game play. The graphics are quite detailed with a large world that makes good use of the limited memory space of the cartridge. You can tell that at the time of it's development, Zelda was one of the largest and most serious projects Nintendo had going. The gameplay again is outstanding. And several people today still enjoy a good romp through the original Hyrule. With 9 dungeons, lots of exploration and a decent difficulty ramp-up, Zelda can be quite fun for the newer gamer as well as the older ones. Also, with the addition of a second quest with increased difficulty, the game has its fair share of replay value. For the new time collector or an old Freddy Savage "Wizard" Nintendo diehard, Zelda is a trip down memory lane that will actually not dissapoint as some other games will. And for those who never played the genesis of the Zelda franchise, this is a game that should not be missed. (Especially since it is now on the GBA)
