A great game that just can't match its predecessor.

User Rating: 9.4 | Zelda no Densetsu: Majora no Kamen (w/Memory Pack) N64
This game introduces a rather innovative concept: live three days over and over again. Seems cool, right? Well, it is. Majora's Mask took a huge leap in gameplay and was the second Zelda game (after Link's Awakening) to deviate from the main story of the Triforce. This game, a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, follows young Link in his search for Navi, the fairy who traveled with him in his previous adventure. Lost in the forest with only his trusted horse, Epona, Link instead finds a masked Skull Kid who attacks him and steals his ocarina and horse. Link then follows the villain into the mysterious, almost parallel world of Termina, a land that is doomed to be destroyed in three days. A lot of lore and conjecture follows from the intricate, multi-faceted storyline of Majora's Mask, with several different areas to explore. The graphics and sound are enhanced with the required N64 Expansion Pack, giving the players additional reason to immerse themselves in the game. However, most of the gameplay elements are taken directly from Ocarina of Time, including most of the character models (Anju the innkeeper, for example, is the Cucco breeder from OoT's Kakariko Village). It is unknown whether the model reuse was due to story details or lazy developers, but it is prominent nevertheless. Altogether, this game is a worthy successor to Ocarina of Time, but the previous game casts a long shadow over this one.
