If you did not play the original on the GB then you just got another chance.

On your good old Game Boy Link's Awakening came out and actually did a good job recreating the Zelda experience on the home consoles. Now Nintendo has decided to put it into color and release it again. Does it still hold its greatness? Link's Awakening starts out with Link's boat being struck down by lightning and him washing up on the beach. A family takes him in and gives him his shield saying the rest of his stuff must still be on the beach. At the beach he acquires his sword and meets an odd (and slightly annoying) owl. The owl then leads you on your quest to escape the island. The graphics of Link's Awakening are simple and basically the Game Boy's graphics with a splash of color. Though the graphics won't stun and dazzle you they get the job done. In other words, you know what you are looking at. Link's Awakening's sound is, well to put it nicely, disappointing. The sound is a little too pingy and some of the tunes used in the games become repetitive and annoying. Also, I wish I could add a sound sample of the sound Link makes every stinking time he swings the sword. It completely ruins even the decent tunes. Only good thing done with the sound is it is not mandatory to play through the game. After the last two categories you have got to think this game must suck. Well guess what, the gameplay of Link's Awakening saves the day. Other than it being a rather short game, the gameplay is great. With a great mix of puzzle solving and action, it just about reforms Zelda for the GBC. Also this game has some of the difficulty the recent games have lost (Windwaker and Minish Cap, I'm talking to you). So if you can deal with some dated graphics and horrendous sound (just turn it off and get a cd player), then get this game for some excellent gameplay on the road.
