This is what Zelda games need to be from now on, but it’s far from being a 10 out of 10

Zelda isn’t really one of my go-to games, but after hearing great things about Breath of the Wild, I wanted to try it. The game is really gorgeous. The environments are diverse, the weapons are extremely cool and fun to use, and the townspeople give you plenty of side quests to fill the time. The shrines are a nice way to test your wit with the puzzles and battles. Cooking food items to restore health and stamina adds even more variety and charm to the game, and the characters you meet along the way have interesting personalities and assist you in boss fights. They’ve also included environments where you need certain clothes to traverse through, which is awesome. You can’t wear or use metal in a thunderstorm, need warm clothing for cold areas, and need clothing with heat protection in deserts and other areas. It adds a completely new element and keeps you on your toes when the weather changes. Combine this with Link controlling to near perfection, and an interesting plot, it’s without a doubt the best Zelda game I’ve ever played. However, it does have problems, and I think everybody here will agree, the worst problem in the game is the weapon breaking mechanic. Weapons break far too easily and often in this game, and it can get increasingly frustrating when you’re fighting a horde of enemies and your weapon breaks, which means you’ll have to either hit the pause screen to equip a new weapon or hit right on the d-pad to equip it on the fly. That’s awkward, annoying, and a real pace breaker when you’re in the middle of fights. What makes me even more frustrated is that the Hylian Shield can also break, but then you can just buy another one. The Master Sword temporarily breaks, but recharges after a period of time. Wasn’t the Hylian Shield and Master Sword one of a kind? Now a random townsperson is selling the Hylian Shield in bulk? How does that make sense? The fact that they ridiculously nerfed each of Link’s most important weapons and the shield was completely unnecessary. These should be the unbreakable rewards for battling hard throughout the game. There are minor frame rate issues, and draw distance for enemies that are far away needs work, but thanks to Nintendo’s inferior hardware, these problems are going to happen. Overall, even with its problems, it’s a remarkably fun adventure. I give it an 8 out of 10.
