One of those games you don't want to rush through straight away in one sitting for its emotional story

User Rating: 10 | The Last of Us PS3
Naughty Dog has been around for many years since the late 90's starting off with Crash Bandicoot and then moving towards the Playstation 2 with Jak and Daxter series and then the Uncharted series soon after on the Playstation 3.

The Last of Us is supposed to be the last biggest game to be released for the Playstation 3 before most games make a jump to the next-gen console. The Last of Us takes the gameplay and story to a different direction unlike any other games based on survival. What really makes this game special is its cliffhanging story based on Joel who is a single father during the outbreak known as Cordyceps fungus ravages the United States. Joel loses his daughter. Twenty years later Joel is pretty much making a living on what's left of civilization which was destroyed by the infected. Joel goes on a journey with a young girl called Ellie who is infected but it hasn't taken control of her. So Joel and Ellie head to the Fireflies outside quarantine.

Gameplay: Based on a 3rd person game this is more of a survival game based on reality, you maybe be thinking of The Walking Dead meets Uncharted but you're actually wrong on that part. You do get to punch and attack enemies using your fists or guns you'll pick up along the way, you can use weapons like a plank of wood or even a metal pipe. Along the way you do find various materials and items which can be used to customize health kits, smoke grenades or even making a plank of wood into an even more dangerous weapon.

It makes this game more of a stealth then an action game because half the time you'll be sneaking around which is one option if you don't want to waste any ammo on guns, you can use a brick or a glass bottle which you can throw at enemies or anywhere if doing so this can create noise enemies and clickers can easily hear noises if you're not too careful. The key to this is to try and keep low and take down your enemies quickly or sneak away from them.

Graphics and Sound: What really shines about this title is that its graphics and animation have been well detailed, you can tell that Naughty Dog really have done a great job between now and then when it comes to video games over the years. There maybe a few odd details that drop here and there the annoying problem that appears now and then is that pending on what type of PS3 console you own this game can easily over-heat your PS3 that quickly certain games like this can over heat your PS3 mainly on its graphics and software that it's been using, however you can still play this game if you change the display settings on your PS3.

The environments throughout the whole game are breath taking to look at from ruined cites to the snowy mountains, you can easily get stuck into this world very easily. Voice acting is yet another key feature that makes the game perfect hearing both Joel's and Ellie's voice make you want to play the game more and more, hearing the odd creeps and sounds make get a chill down your spine and of course listening to the sound around you during gameplay. Even hearing the soundtrack can be a little emotional to listen during both cutscenes and gameplay.

Overall: As I've already mentioned in my review don't rush through the game straight away try and take your time completing this game, its story is both memorable and yet some of the best moments in video game history. Once you've beaten the game you can carry over your stuff to New Game+ making it a little more challenging, and plus there's also trophies to collect if you're a PS3 Trophy collector. Multiplayer is also added where you can play up to 2-8 players online in a variety of survival challenges and working more as a team.

It took me a while to finishing this game but it does make me wonder if there will ever be another game like this in the future? It's one of those games that just make it perfect based on a survival-apocalypses game.
