If you want the definitive version of a classic, here it is.

User Rating: 9 | The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match (NeoGeo Online Collection Vol. 10) PS2
The King of Fighters is one of the greatest fighting game series of all time. KOF '98 is one of the best games in the series. And Ultimate Match is the definitive version of that classic. The gameplay is intuitve, varied, fast-paced, and fun. There's a huge selection of characters(about sixty-four). Hey, KOF was never known for small numbers. Battles are mostly 3-on-3 elimination matches. But the final boss takes you on with only one strong character. Spoiler alert. There's no story. It's a "dream match" game. That means any character can compete no matter what happened to them in canon. Now to go into detail in the gameplay. With sixty-four characters you'd expect some variety. And there is. My favorite characters are Athena, Terry from Fatal Fury, series protagonist Kyo, his rival Iori, Shermie, Chizuru, Mai from Fatal Fury, and Blue Mary(also from Fatal Fury). This version also adds Kasumi Todo, Mr. Big, and Eiji Kisaragi from Art of Fighting, Geese Howard and Wolfgang Krauser from Fatal Fury, and the bosses from KOF '96 and '97, Goenitz and Orocji. The fighting is also fast-paced. And the controls are intuitive and responsive. In the end, Ultimate Match is the definitive version of a classic. Pick it up if you want an awesome game.-Dan B. Jr.
