1 of the best monocromatic games and the best fighting game to be released for the old Game Boy in US

User Rating: 9.5 | Nettou The King of Fighters '95 GB
Ok there were a lot of fighting games in the old Game Boy while some of they were just awful like Street Fighter 2 and the MK games -except for the second who moves quite good even with some awkward walking frames- and some like Battle Arena Toshinden that still felt kind of slow and odd. Well there was one above all of them -a few more if you go to Japa .

King of Fighters included most of the flagship characters of the series -and SNK games overall- like the eternal rivals Kyo and Iori, Fatal Fury's Terry, Joe, Kim, Billy K and Mai, Art of fighting's Ryo, Yuri and Eiji and also Athena, Kensou, Benimaru, Ralph and Heidern. The game uses the same battle mechanics of the Arcade like battles three on three tough the only complete team here is Iori's and also the basic movements like super jumps, small jumps, step aside, counter attack, taunt and charge energy all of that is included .

The graphics are simple but the characters have a lot frames straight from the Arcade. The scenarios are good but simple well they just stay behind and don't get in the way when the battle. KOF 95 was surprisingly good for his time even if only included half of the characters from the Arcade version all the fighters had all of his Movements even the less important ones and of course the Super Moves all of them perfectly implemented in animation and control movement ( Ryo's dragon punch goes easily than in the PS1 version and here is no loading times between rounds ) . Ok i know the characters are small compared to the scenario making the Standard Attacks almost useless reducing the fast paced-dynamic battles almost to the use of Special Moves if you wanna win .

The Boss Tracks are done well but for the most part you're gonna be hearing the Iori Track that is just fine but you sure gonna get tired of it . The sound effects are good -most if compared to the ones in the later game of GBC SFZero- but if you're playing in SuperGB then they change to awful. The game includes three bosses fighters available with a code: Saisy, Rugal and Nakoruru from Samurai Showdown and all of them play greattly actually better than the SNES version of Samurai .

KOF 95 is a big example of what could be done on the GB with low graphics, decent sound and a quite dynamic control and gameplay and it's a shame that later Takara fighting games didn't were released on this side of the ocean.
