Hammer House meets Ghostbusters - Haunted Mansion where things really do go bump in the night!

User Rating: 7 | Disney's The Haunted Mansion XBOX
WHEN IT comes to attractions there’s only one place to visit – Disney. They certainly know how to entertain, with some of the best – if not the best – theme park attractions money can buy. One of the most famous is the Haunted Mansion – the eerie house where things literally go bump in the night – and now you can play the game. Closely tied with the up and coming Eddie Murphy movie of the same name, the game features over 40 amazing locations, 999 baggable spooks and a unique combat system. You are thrown in at the deep end as mild-mannered Zeke Halloway, who visits the house after applying for a caretaker’s job, only to discover the spooks have tricked you. They need a brave soul to help them rid the mansion of evil spirits – spirits which have taken over and deprived them of the happier times they used to enjoy. It’s up to you to discover the truth behind the murders which have plagued the house since it was first built. And would you believe that this would-be caretaker actually has powers! He has the ability to speak to the dead and can use the six power settings of a magic lamp which fires ecto-plasmic rays at the evil ghosts. This game is a bit like Hammer House meets Ghostbusters – it’s fun to play but it has a really eerie quality which stops you from playing the game in the dark or on your own...remember the first time you played Silent Hill as a one-some! As you would expect this game has some real tricks up its sleeve and offers gamers the chance to search out secret rooms and unlock virtual tours of the Disney ride. You can also play as a ghost, seeking death certificates of the gathered souls (something else you have to do...hence the Ghostbusters) and then use them to solve the murder mysteries. It certainly isn’t a quick play and its finished game. This really has longevity and fans of this genre will be playing this for hours...but not the early hours! How the game is tied into the movie still remains to be seen, but that said, if the film is half as good as the game, then we’re in for a real treat. As long as Eddie Murphy doesn’t end up talking to the animals and keeps to the ghosts then everything will be fine.
