Alright, so I found this one at Blockbuster one day and decided to give it a rent. The first thing I thought when I started the story mode was "wtf is this s***?". The controls are surprisingly similar to "Street Racing Syndicate", which is also produced by Namco. The realism...alright, there barely is any realism, the car will stick to the road one moment, slide around like crazy the next, and then stick to the road in the opposite direction. It should also be noted that every single car in the game has 6 speed transmission. Fail. Sound...definitely meh, every car sounded the exact same to me, whether they were Inline type engines, Rotary engines or V-engines, it all sounded the bloody same. I had to turn down the sound effects because the music was so damn quiet, I was somewhat interested in the inclusion of J-pop and J-rock songs, but I wasn't amazed by them. The graphics were alright if the road didn't blind the crap out of me, a trait that Namco seems to be following, making the roads bright and yellow as if they had just been rained on, the bright reflections do indeed cause some headaches. Now then, onto the apparent main theme of the game, Drifting. Simply put, this game is the single biggest ego inflater out there, the only thing you need to know is the right angle to hit the wall, after that, you're in drift city, you can hit as many walls as you want and you still earn the points. If I had to describe mountain drifting in this game with one statement, it'd be "destruction derby". If you know anything about anything about cars, and you're a self respecting car nut who wants realism, go get Gran Turismo 4, if you want to drift, go get Ridge Racer, just stay the hell away from this one. It's a terrible waste of a DVD disc. Live with it.
