Great for MGS fans alike.

User Rating: 7.2 | The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 PS2
The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PS2 is the icing on the cake look at the early stages of the MGS2 production. When Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was released way back in 2001 for the PS2, it proved to be one of the most anticipated games to date, also one of the best games ever, and one of Sony's killer apps for the Playstation 2. So in turn, it was pretty much inevitable for "The Document of MGS2" to be released, to show the many stages the now legendary game went through.

To prevent confusion, this disc is not a game, but an in-depth documentary with added extras. The game play this DVD does include are a few VR missions promoting the release of MGS2: Substance. The DVD itself includes dozens of material found in and out of the game. The DVD's main core is the behind the scenes footage of game production, and a host of different trailers for the game, seen at different events(Such as E3). Taking a look at the game's storyboard, and some neat motion capture footage really gives you a feel for how much work was put in.

Some added extras present are 3-D character models you can maneuver, turning them around full 360 degree angles, and even being able to alter their colors. About every character model seen in an MGS game is present, from Solid Snake to Metal Gear Ray, and even locations from the games, like the Tanker and Plant. Other character models include some that were just ideas that never made it into the real game. Beyond the various character/location models you can look at, are the game cover boxes. Yes, the "Box art" gallery shows off the different boxes and cases each MGS game came in, whether they differ by country, or special edition packages. Don't think the sound got skipped in this title either. The music heard in MGS2 can be played back in the title's "Jukebox" mode. From the "Intrusion/Evasion" music, to the tracks heard in parts of the game, it's all relatively here.

This one disc package offers a lot of bonuses and things. Even with all the easter eggs given to you, if you're looking for a game to play, this isn't really the one to choose. For serious Metal Gear fans, this is a must buy, but for others looking to play a game, take a pass.
