User Rating: 9.9 | The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay XBOX
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a very long game title however this is simply an exceptional game. The reason is this is not a game this truly is an action movie that you play. The game play hear can be describe as nothing less then intense. There are so many good things hear I am not really sure were to start but I will start the atmosphere of the game. Butcher bay is almost a complete world or at lest as complete as any world I have seen outside and RPG. Every single character in the game that you interact with has his own voice and personality and agenda. The game play is very open ended without trying to imitate the GTA franchise. You are able to go onto several sub quests while perusing your main goal. The controls in the game are quick and responsive. There is also a melee combat system that is nothing short of brilliant in its simplicity and execution. This also brings up the fact this is not a FPS, far from it. The fact of the matter is there are only a few times that you are able to use a gun in the game. Most of the time you will be fighting either hand to hand, or with knives and clubs. This gives the game a fun and interesting dynamic. There is also a significant stealth dynamic in this game. But were a few FPS have given a halfhearted attempt at stealth in Riddick it is an integral part. But hear too simplicity is the key; whenever you can not be seen by your opponent the screen turns blue. Since you do not have weapons to simply blast your way though the game the use of stealth becomes a critical part. But have no fear when you do get a gun in your hand it is simply a joy. The graphics hear are simply superb. They are some of the best I have ever seen. In fact they may be the best this year. There has been a great amount of attention to detail in all of the environments and in the characters. Riddick is simply a dead ringer for Vin Diesel in this game. The use of light is great in this game. You will often use the tactic of shooting out lights to make your yourself invisible a la splinter cell. Overall the graphics really gave the game a cinematic feel. But what really puts this game apart is the voice acting. Vin lends his voice to Riddick, as do many other actors. Unlike some FPS who only give lip service to voice acting the voice acting in this game is in fact acting. Many major names lent they voice to this game and it shows in the final product. This is simply the best game to come out on the xbox probably since the original Halo. The only reason I didn’t give it a 10 is no online multiplayer, but that really didn't even bother me. Its formula will undoubtedly be copied by many games to follow since that is the way in this industry. But The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is simply the best licensed game ever, period.
