Drum your way through RPG Battles

User Rating: 8 | Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack NS

“Taiko no Tatsujin: Dokodon! Mystery Adventure” & “Taiko no Tatsujin: Don and Katsu's Space-time Adventure”, both originally released for the 3DS in Japan only are both now available internationally for the Nintendo Switch compiled in this package, and what a package it is! Both games feature story modes that takes on a JRPG approach, but while your party characters seem to have regular battles against monsters, the player is playing drums! If you play well, you win, and if you play poorly, your team gets knocked out. Simple, but fun, each of the two games are around seven to eight hours long and will have you playing as series’ stalwarts Don and Katsu along with historical and mythological figures. This can be a bit weird on paper (seeing Marie Antoinette, Cleopatra and the Wright Brothers fighting alongside each other against giant monsters sure is a sight to behold), but the games’ storybook presentation makes the premise easier to swallow. Despite my aching shoulders, I looked back at the time I had spent with the two games fondly after I had seen credits, feeling like I had experienced something truly unique in the medium of video games.
