Blood. Blood. And then there's some more blood.

Wooo-ha. This may just be the most gory game I've ever seen. Red spews everywhere like an explosion at a paint factory.

You play as Guts, a muscular hero who roams the land trying to extinguish a plague that turns people into violent monsters. Guts carries a titanic broadsword and uses it to hack his way through anything and anyone he doesn't like.

His best friend is a flying little Tinkerbell creature that gives him advice. No, I'm not kidding. When you're done with a section, ol' Tink shows up and buzzes around to guide you into the next area. Annoyingly, she'll just go to the place and stop-- in there, not out where you can see her. So hurry, or you might forget what to do in some of the more mazelike areas. Some enemies can regenerate even after you've completed your objective, and nothing's more frustrating than having to smash them all over again, just to find the next door.

Anyway, you'll meet bosses to truly challenge you. One of them is the devil himself. It'll take you umpteen continues, but keep trying, it's worth it.

If you're in the mood for a no-nonsense battle-fest, this one might do it for you.
