Supreme Commander 2 might be a fun game, but without question it is not as 'Supreme' as its predecessor.

Supreme Commander 1 and Forged alliance, certainly bring many images to most RTS fans of the kind. The epic scale, the epic Units, the epic explosions, the epic maps, and of course the EPIC LAG.
Though apart from that last little 'epic' thing In my opinion, they were 2 games that changed the way i see the RTS genre in general. After playing sup com , i went back to C&C3 and it felt like one of the small battles happening in a small corner of the map in the Sup Com universe. That formula that sup com followed though, was for sure and for some, difficult to keep up with. The ECO system, and the general way resources worked, was rather comfusing at times. The game though was really rewarding when, after 2 hours of base building or so, you get to kick your enemies a** with a nuke that takes out half the map. In addition to that the variety of units was HUGE, and the same applied to the buildings. Each faction had its unique look that applied to all its aspects. From the shape of the units to the explosion of the nukes and the design of the shield dome. Now lets get to the point of this review.

SupCom 2 is here to dissapoint the old, and entertain the new. That would be the perfect way to describe it. Lets be more specific. The eco system is dumbed down, to a point that things could not possibly get simpler. You just have Mass and Energy in numbers which increase uppon time depending on how many generators and mass extractors you have. When you build a unit you simply spend some of this mass and energy instanteniously and there you go. Like a fine C&C game. But in addition to that, supreme commander 2 has lost its epic feel since the scale has been completely redesigned, and everything seems smaller now. It is like mixing a C&C game with SupCom. For the C&C fans that is something good, especially after the total letdown of C&C4. But for supCom fans this is a bad aspect of the new game. In terms of the Graphics game game itself, well, all the unique parts of the factions have been simplified,(all shields and nukes look the same, and etc), and the graphics are not an improvement at all. Textures are bad from upclose, effects seem less intence and the general atmosphere has a rather faded Anime look.
One thing that is better though, is the performance. But clearly the looks of the game had to be sacrificed.
The story mode might take you some time depending on the setting that you play, and be sure you will hear some really BAD voice acting during it. It is inevitable to notice that most of the names of the units are ...well...stupid.
The factions are the classic UEF AEON and CYBRAN. AI although supposed to be extremely smart, it is NOT after all. Dumb things happen all the time, and in addition to that your units get stuck between buildings due to the *flawless* pathfinding system -_-
Though the positive side of the game is the Multiplayer experience. Again, those who like C&C games will like that one as well, and some SupCom fans might be adapted to the new game. Personally i really dont think as myself as an adapted one. Before the release of the game, Chris talor said that whoever plays SupCom2 will not want to go back to SupCom FA. Well, guess what. HE WAS WRONG. I am back to FA and so are many other fans of SupCom. That i am sure of.

Speaking generally, if you are a SupCom fan, you might want to rent it and try it first. Cause if you buy it, after some time, you might want your 40$ or so back. As for other RTS gamers that are not fans of the original SupCom, this might be your chance to experience something different and a little more supreme compared to most other strategy games. This one won't dissapoint you.

Update: A very positive and promising fact though is that Patches are released all the time, improving many aspects of the game such as AI, Balance as well as Pathfinding. Now there is a DLC pack coming in too, and a second one is expected as well.
