Fun and addictive for a Mario game on the Gameboy

User Rating: 7.5 | Super Mario Land GB
This was the first Mario game to be released on the handheld console called the Gameboy back in 1989, with Super Mario Bros being a huge success on the NES back in 1985 and during the rest of the 80's, you'd be wondering if a Mario game would be success on a handheld. I've recently picked up Super Mario Land at a cheap game shop and been playing it for the past few weeks and I would admit that it's an addictive game which can be fun for quite a while.

Main plot for Mario Land is that Tatanga has kidnapped Princess Daisy and Mario has to fight his way through 4 worlds in order to save Princess Daisy. The gameplay is basic for any Nintendo gamer or non-gamer where you've got the D-pad and the A button to jump and B to dash or use fire power, the game consist of 4 worlds but with 3 stages each, the third stage of each level will have a boss battle near the end of each of the level. If you reach further and further in the game you'll earn a high score more points you earned you can use it to continue your progress if you end up keep dying later through the levels.

With it being a retro game and making it your first time playing a Mario game on a handheld it's nice to feel and know what games were like back then if you weren't around those days or you didn't own a Gameboy when you were a kid. I really do like the 2D styled graphics and the music as well making it a fun to play when you're out and about. If you own a 3DS you can buy this of the Nintendo 3DS store if you wanted to.
