User Rating: 9.4 | Super Mario Kart SNES
Mario, Nintendo’s mascot, was known for his classic platformer games, now Nintendo has decided to give Mario his own racing game. Super Mario Kart was a great spin-off to the Mario series and has greatly pushed Nintendo to the top.

Game design: Super Mario Kart is a racing game involving Nintendo’s famous icons riding their own little Karts. Using the power of the SNES the game operated in a more 3D environment rather than having it viewed from the top, which was an incredible achievement at that time.
There are certain cups you can choose from, The Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup and etc. Each cup will have 4 races and each cup will have 3 difficulty levels. You can also play 2 Players and can hone your driving skills with Practice and time attack mode. Game play: Specifically there is a rooster of 8 characters, Mario, Luigi, Peach, DK (now known as DKjr) Yoshi, Toad, Koopa and Bowser. Each driver will have their own strength and weaknesses. During the course of the race you can collect coins or step on item pads. Item pads provide you with items that will circle around slots and you will have to press a button to stop the slots, so items will basically come at random. The items can help you get an advantage in the race, ranging from shell missiles to Mushrooms used as boosters. The karts have basic racing game functions; you can accelerate, brake and can slide by jumping and making a turn.

Sound: The music is what can keep you motivated to playing the game. Although it’s a completely different soundtrack it does have the Super Mario feeling to it. There are also sound effects in the game that makes the racing exciting.

Super Mario Kart proves that Nintendo can always come up with creative things; the game is unique and couldn’t be compared to ordinary racing games of that time, it was basically the father of action racing games (Such as Diddy Kong racing and JakX)
The game was great and had great potential; it’s too bad that the sequels Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash didn’t do anything to push this game beyond other competitors.
