One of the most revolutionary video games ever is also one of the most fun and replayable video games ever.

This game is very nostalgic for me. It was my first Nintendo 64 game as well as my first step into 3-D gaming. Prior to this, I mostly had played strictly linear 2-D platformers, and this was unlike anything I had tried. Granted, I was only 5 years old when I got my Nintendo 64 for Christmas. For a 5 year old, exploring in this game was a new exciting thing I had never experienced. You didn't have to go do the objectives. You could look around and when I found secret stars in the castle, I probably shat my pants (shat?). Younger people today probably will not understand this feeling but I am thankful that I got to experience '90s video games when they were released. The '90s has to be the greatest video game decade ever. So many innovations and the games had more heart, if that makes sense. I remembered being impressed because I could make Mario crawl and do all these different types of jumps. And I could grab his face in the title screen. And it had fantastic music. The Koopa's Road theme is the best, and there is Dire Dire Docks too. This game was such a huge step up from the previous generation's 2-D platformers. How did Nintendo perfect 3-D platforming on their first attempt? Looking back at it, I suppose the cameras were not the greatest and the N64 controller is somewhat awful. But that doesn't take away from the perfection of this game. Super Mario 64 is tied (see other 10 star games) for my favorite game ever.
