Super Mario is back yet again on the current handheld with unique gameplay and simple controls.
King Koopa is back to his evil schemes and has kidnapped Princess Peach yet again. It is your duty as the mustachioed plumber to save her from the beast. Throughout this title, you receive letters from your true love, after you complete the world, that shows her status.
Controls for Super Mario 3D Land are rather simple and easy to get used to. You control Super Mario with the control pad, which makes platforming very smooth. Press B or A buttons to jump and L or R button to crouch. You can dash with the Y or X button. You can also perform some of Super Mario's signature moves such as a long jump and the ground pound.
This title's gameplay is still the enjoyable platforming action from the previous brave plumber titles that we all adore, but uniquely combines 2D and 3D platform elements. This combination makes it very changeling to find all three star coins that are hidden all over in each stage. This title briought back the Tanooki suit that was introduced in Super Mario Brothers 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and is used quite a bit throughout the title. It also brought other power ups back including the fire flower and power star, however Super Mario 3D Land brings a new power up to the stage. That power up is the Boomerang suit. This suit allows you to throw a boomerang at enemies as well as grabbing hard to reach coins.
Graphics for this title are rather impressive. Every stage is colorful and detailed. The 3D effect brings depth when jumping platform to platform.
The soundtrack of Super Mario 3D Land brought back music from previous Super Mario titles as well as new tunes in each stage you explore. Each track you listen to is full of charm.
