Fun top-down version of Mario Kart, but there's not many maps or multiplayer.

User Rating: 6.5 | Super Laser Racer PC
Super Laser Racer is a top down, graphically simple clone of Mario Kart. You race around the track and pick up various weapons or power-ups: turbo, shield, missiles, various projectiles, mines, bombs, etc. The main mode is a tournament of 4 or 12 races. You get points for placing and the player with the highest score at the end wins. I didn't notice any MK-esque rubberbanding.

The keyboard controls can be a little bit hard on the hands, but I've heard you can utilize Xpadder to use a controller.

The game is definitely fun, but just for a little while. The weapons make the matches fun, and the racing is fine. There are a bunch of different ships to choose from, but I didn't really feel the need to switch from the first one.

The main problem here is that it is light on content. The tracks are very simple, but there are only 12 of them. This seems a bit strange, since it should only take a few hours to create one.

Here's the biggest problem though. As soon as you start playing, you'll think, "Hey, this is pretty fun. I can't wait to get good enough to try out multiplayer." Well, too bad. THERE IS NO MP! This is a huge glaring mistake.

The low number of maps, mediocre AI, and no MP means you can only get a few hours of fun out of this. It is fun while it lasts, but there is just way too little content. But, if you get it for $1, that's not really a problem.
