Atari delivers another DBZ game... but from the producer of Street Fighter II

User Rating: 3.6 | Super Dragon Ball Z PS2
This game is not as great as the trailer leads you to believe with the lines "hardcore dbz fighting" and "dbz fighting game you've been waiting for" would have you hooked. And from the producer of Street Fighter 2 would make it seem even better but alas it is not.

The game's roster calls together 18 characters (wow 18 playable characters) what a treat. Compare that to the first Budokai which had 23 playable characters and supposedly each of the characters in this game play very "individually" but you'll find yourself using the same strategies to win the battle making it seem that the characters do not play very individually.

Now keep in mind that I'm not a hardcore fighting game fan but I've played my fair share of them to critique them and this one lacks. I'd play Budokai 1 and 2 over Super DBZ. This game is also, as cliche as it may be, this is a game made for fighting game fans.

Fans of DBZ will also noticed it's looks more like the manga than the anime and most of all that the game doesn't have all the flashy effects of past DBZ games.

The only thing to keep you attached to this game if you're not a hardcore fighter is the customization cards which gives you a base character, Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, etc. build up points through winning battles to customize the character with attacks and weapons.

But altogether, this game is a lacking DBZ game and sad to say Budokai 1 is a better game. If you get a DBZ game this year, wait for Tenkaichi 2. And pass on Super Dragonball Z.
