It's Suikoden...you got a problem with that?

It you are a fan of classic Jrpgs, I don't need to write this review for you. You either picked up V when it came out, or as soon as you finished DWVIII and Oblivion ;P

Each of the Suikoden games has you collecting each of the 108 Stars of Destiny to help you save the (world/country/people/whatever). This give you an amazing variety of characters to enjoy in your party, and each of them has thier own little personality in the right circumstances. You also get to find your fortress (in the past it's been a ship/cave series/castle/manor) and each of your 108+ does something in it. Some run shops or let you train, others allow you access to mini-games or the ability to change your characters. And everyone has something to say, and most of them change related on what's going on in the world around them.

The main combat style is turn based, using weapons or runes (magic) to help and harm. There is also a duel type combat (think rock-paper-sissors) and large scale battles between your army and that of the bad guy de jour. The large battles are similar to what you might find in a RTS where you move your units at the opponents, trying to have your stronger unit hit the weaker counterpart to minimize losses.

The best part of the series however is the story. While it is a tried and true formula (hero must save everything) it is done very well. By the end of the game you feel like you know each character and actually had some fun with them.

Gameplay - Very strong game play and nicely varied. Nothing to complicated, and most of the game I can even do one handed while I hold my sleeping infant with the other.

Graphics - While the headshots are nice anime pics, the graphics are only ok, nothing spectacular. Of course for those familiar with JRPGs, that's nothing new.

Sound - Lots of sounds, most of them pretty good. The voice acting is spectacular.

Value - Get it...I mean it...GET IT. If you like time consuming rpgs...GET IT!!!!
