Since the original Suikodens (I & II) I have felt that the other suikoden games have been lacking. Suikoden V finally puts that feeling to rest. The battle system itself is simple. You can attack, use runes (magic), combo attack ect. However a nice addition is the battle formations which allow special abilities to take place. Another nice addition is the timer system on dual battles which give a slightly more realistic edge to those battles. Finally the plot and characters is where this game really shines. The plot is deep and well written and the characters are all enjoyable. Collecting the 108 stars is once more a joy instead of a hassle like its been in games like Suikoden IV. A few downsides to the game is that i have found the bosses incredibly easy while some of the random encounters challenging. Also the camera angle does make it hard to see where your character is at times, however it does give you a bit of surprise when you accidentally discover a hidden chest behind a building. There are a few other small snags with the game (high encounter rate & load times) but overall it comes close to Suikoden I & II
