A worthwhile new addition to a beloved series.

User Rating: 8.5 | Suikoden V PS2
Suikoden 5 is the prequel of the first suikoden, which makes it a perfect place to start for series newcomers. The game is hard because you literally need to use a guide to find all 108 stars of destiny, of whom a couple are time limited and unobtainable henceforth on your first play through. Do not be dismayed though because there is a new game plus (unfortunately, it limits what items/skills you may carry over).rnrnThe game is quite long, clocking at about 35 to 40 hours if you just play the story, however, if you're going for a completion of all stars of destiny, it may take you another 20 hours. There is an optional dungeon, and a very difficult one as well which is tied with getting one of the stars of destiny. A protip; always have at least 6 escape scrolls, because you never know when you would need it; it also helps in leaving a dungeon after a quest/recruitment, since the game does not automatically teleport you to the exit. rnrnThe hero is quite OP if you can give him defense accessories and that one formation in which he can 'tank' for the entire party. rnrnIn conclusion, if you can get a perfect playthrough of the game and get all 108 stars of destiny, then you're in a treat. I really don't recommend going for a new game plus and investing another 60 hours into the game (time could be halved if you know and recall what you're doing in recruitment). Suikoden 5 is currently the last suikoden that's been released, however, i'm optimistic that it's still a resting IP and another one could come out in the future.rnrnrn

p.s. I first played this in 2009, with my last save in 10/22/2009, just recently got my ps2 and an old tv so I loaded my save just this 10/18/2012 ! wow, almost THREE years before I was able to play it again and finish it.
