A game that attempts to be something, it does not quite accomplish. However it is still an entertaining experience.

My first encounter with this game was when it was published on Steam. I had never heard of it before and it didn't seem like it had any major advertisement nor fan-base, so this review is not going to compare it to the giant budget games out there.

My first impression of the game left me with two thoughts. Firstly, the tutorial seemed chaotic and it led me to believe the learning curve would be as steep as Mount Everest. However to my surprise the game is relativly easy to get the hang of. My second thought came down to the music. Not only is the loading times long and tiresome (1-2 minutes) but the music that runs in the background is a loop of a 15 second melody which contains some pretty annoying voices.

Aside from these faults, the game is played relatively well, only with some minor UI lag and sound issues.

The gameplay reminded me of an older game named "Shattered Union" and plays almost the same. You start in strategic mode in which you can pick any European country, some North African ones and the United States (which for some reason is located in northern Egypt). Here you have to manage your economy, productions and your diplomatic relations and move your units around on the map. When moving your unit into the same region as a hostile one, you engage the tactical mode which is basically a turn-based hex map in which you must wipe out the enemy. Defense and offensive goals are also presents. For example if you are the attacking side, you can win by capturing all three flags and if you're defensive you can alternately win by surviving for a specific number of rounds.

The units in the game are pretty well balanced with the exception of the helicopters. If you have a large ground based army against a bunch of helicopters, you can wave your army goodbye unless you have some AA guns in that unit.

All in all the game is surprisingly entertaining and captivating. The ability to set your own goals and the large number of countries, gives the game a great replay value. The 5 major countries (UK, France, Germany, Russia and the US) also have a campaign of their own with story-based missions.
