Iffy camera work and controls make for a gameplay experience that's less than it could have been.

Spy games require as much brain as brawn, and that's one of their attractions for me. Still, although the plot with thief Anya Romanov scrambling through the environs of Forge City is a compelling backdrop, I had serious problems with Stolen. All too many times, I was trying to hide behind a pillar and got scouted out by a guard when the camera swiveled for no reason. She can't run much, either. Her key task of placing tracking devices on security guards is a pain and a half.

Who came up with the rule that player operation in stealth games has to be complicated? There was an art heist game I loved that was out a number of years ago, but its one major flaw was the consistently annoying control system, which had about 50,000 functions. And the handheld thingamajig has four buttons. Good luck with that.

I wanted so much to like this game, and some of it still appeals, but I'd say you should rent before you buy.
